Barton Creek / spyglass Rock Walk: Reading the Landscape

A repeat of last week's hike, we’ll meet near the Barton Creek trail Spyglass access area at the Barton Creek Greenbelt at 1601 Spyglass Drive, Austin, TX 78746 (if you can see a Tacodeli, you are at the right place) Come prepared for a moderate hike on the Violet Crown Trail (about 2–3 miles). The terrain is uneven with creek crossings and limestone surfaces, but we’ll keep a relaxed pace so we can pause often and take in the landscape. Along the way, we’ll stop at key exposures of Edwards Limestone, creek channels, and bluff sections to observe fossils, karst features, fractures, and evidence of groundwater flow. We’ll use these features to “read” the geologic history of Barton Creek and the broader Edwards Aquifer system. No prior geology experience is needed—this is a casual, observational walk focused on learning how the landscape formed and how water continues to shape it today.
