"Lost Wolves of Yellowstone" Documentary

Escape the summer heat and join us for an unforgettable IMAX experience — “Lost Wolves of Yellowstone.” But this is more than a wildlife documentary, it is a story about a place, a species, and the remarkable connection between them. Long before Yellowstone became America’s first national park in 1872, wolves were already part of this incredible ecosystem. They had lived among the forests, rivers, mountains, and wildlife of Yellowstone for thousands of years. But as humans changed the landscape, wolves were nearly eliminated from the park. Their absence left a missing piece in an ecosystem that had evolved with them. In 1995, after decades without wolves, a historic effort began to return them to Yellowstone — not as a new species, but as a restoration of something that had always belonged there. This IMAX documentary in 2D format, takes us into that powerful story of nature, conservation, and the incredible impact of bringing back a lost part of Yellowstone’s wild heritage. Join us for the breathtaking scenery, the science, and the inspiring story of how one of the world’s most famous ecosystems continues to heal. This documentary is 40 minutes in length, showing from 2:00PM to 2:40 PM. Optional: After the official Sierra Club film event concludes, those who wish, are welcome to join us as we stroll along the Capitol Mall to the Texas Chili Parlor for your choice of snack and cold beverage or early dinner. If you'd like to join us for the Texas Chili Parlor, I'll take a headcount before we go into the theater and call the restaurant so they can have enough seating for our group. Itinerary: 1:30 PM: Let's meet just inside the Bullock Museum main rotunda entrance at 1:30 PM; then, we can purchase our tickets at the Ticketing Booth in the museum's lobby. GETTING THERE: [IMPORTANT] Enter the Bullock Museum address (1800 N. Congress Ave.) into your GPS, but note that the museum entrance is on the pedestrian-only Capitol Mall and cannot be accessed by car. When your GPS brings you to the museum, continue to nearby streets such as Colorado, 17th, or San Jacinto to look for parking. Parking can be a challenge in downtown Austin, so plan to arrive early to find parking within a 5–8 minute walk to the museum. On Sundays, parking is free at the parking meters along San Jacinto Blvd and 17th Street (where posted). Refer to the Texas Capitol Complex Map to familiarize yourself with the surrounding city streets before your visit. If you prefer to park onsite at the museum, the Bullock Museum Parking Garage offers only a full-day rate of $15. The garage entrance is shown on the Texas Capitol Complex Map. PURCHASE IMAX TICKETS: Purchase tickets in-person at the Ticketing Booth in the museum's main rotunda lobby upon arrival for the 2:00 PM showing of Lost Wolves of Yellowstone. Ticket prices: Adult (18-64 years) $10, Senior (65+) $9, Youth (4-17) $8. OR You may purchase tickets online in advance. Note: Online purchases add a convenience fee. Tip: Consider becoming a Bullock Museum Member to get free admission to IMAX documentaries all year long. If you purchase your membership at the Box Office when you arrive, $65 for a year-long single membership, you can get your admission to the Lost Wolves documentary free that same day. And, if you parked in the museum's underground parking garage, your parking fee for that day can be deducted from the price of your new membership. (Running time: 2:00 PM - 2:40 PM) Note: It can be very cold in the museum and theater, even during the summer, so consider bringing a warm layer for comfort. 2:40 PM (After the Official Sierra Club Event): Optional: Those who wish are welcome to stroll with the group along the Capitol Mall for a 10-minute walk to the Texas Chili Parlor for a snack and cold beverage or early dinner.
